Nile John signs for Charlton Athletic on loan from Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur teenager Nile John completes a loan move to League One side Charlton Athletic for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

Tottenham Hotspur prospect Nile John has completed a loan move to Charlton Athletic for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

The 18-year-old has made one first-team appearance for the Lilywhites this season, playing the first 45 minutes of a 1-0 Europa Conference League Qualifying defeat to Pacos de Ferreira.

John has otherwise been restricted to appearances for the Under-23s this season but has caught the eye from the middle of the park, netting seven goals and setting up three more in 14 Premier League 2 appearances.

Now, John has been sent out on loan to continue his development at Charlton, one day after fellow youngster Jack Clarke secured a temporary move to Sunderland, and the teenager has hailed the influence of Spurs academy coach Chris Powell in his switch.

Speaking to cafc.co.uk, John said: "I'm over the moon, I'm really looking forward to it. I'm really excited to get out there and play for the fans and play for the badge.

"Chris Powell is someone who I confide in – this connection with Charlton that he's had and the history and how the fans have been, how the whole club is as a unit, allowed me to feel more welcomed. I'm really grateful for Chris that we've got this connection, this link together."

John - a seven-cap England Under-19 international - follows Chuks Aneke and Juan Castillo to The Valley as Charlton's third arrival of the January window.
