Brendan Rodgers gives Olympics blessing

Brendan Rodgers says that he has no problems letting some of his Swansea stars play in the Olympics.

Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers has said that he would have no problems letting some of his stars play for Team GB in the Olympics.

Wales internationals Ashley Williams, Joe Allen and Neil Taylor have received letters from Stuart Pearce saying that they are being considered for London 2012, as has on-loan England Under-21s defender Steven Caulker.

"If it's good enough for Lionel Messi, then I'm sure it's good enough for one or two other players," Rodgers said.

"My feeling is if they have the opportunity to play it's fantastic for them.

"I have spoken to a number of them individually and there is a long way to go before selection but it's something I encourage."

While the Welsh FA has said that it does not want its players taking part in the Games, Rodgers said that it is a unique opportunity.

"It's a chance that might come once in a lifetime for these players, and while it is not one of the top football tournaments in the world it will certainly be at a good level.

"If we have young players in that playing against top players and then that will make them better players for Swansea."

Tottenham's Gareth Bale and Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey came under fire for posing in Team GB shirts last year.
