Frank Lampard says that he was shocked by Stuart Pearce's decision not to select David Beckham for the Olympics.

Frank Lampard has said that he was shocked by David Beckham's omission from Stuart Pearce's Team GB squad for the Olympics.

The Chelsea star said that Beckham is passionate about his country and believes that he would have been a big influence in the dressing room.

"After the way he was so heavily involved in getting the Games to London then yes I did think he would be playing at the Olympics," Lampard told The Sun. "I know what Becks is like — he is so passionate about his country.

"I know he would have gone full pelt for Team GB and I think his big personality and presence would have been a major plus for the squad.

"So it was a big surprise to me when he was left out especially after he was included in the initial squad."

Beckham won 115 caps for England.
