Kekuta Manneh strike secures Vancouver Whitecaps win

The Vancouver Whitecaps secure a narrow 1-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders thanks to Kekuta Manneh's first-half strike.

Kekuta Manneh scored the only goal of the game to fire the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 1-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders in their MLS clash.

The Sounders threatened in the first minute when Lamar Neagle created an opening down the left, but he drilled his shot straight at David Ousted.

Manneh almost opened the scoring in the 30th minute when he cut in from the left flank and fired a dipping shot towards the near post which was well saved by Stefan Frei.

The winger gave his side the lead right on the stroke of half time when he re-entered the field after receiving treatment on the sidelines. Manneh joined the action and was left unmarked down the left, he raced into the box before placing an effort through the legs of Frei.

In the second half, Erik Hurtado could have doubled Vancouver's lead when he latched onto a through-ball over the top of the Seattle defence, but Frei produced a good save to deny the forward.

Seattle threatened late in the game as Gonzalo Pineda lifted a free kick into the box, but after a brief scramble in the six-yard area Brad Evans's headed effort was hacked clear by the Whitecaps defence.

In the dying seconds of the game Pineda lifted another set piece into the area, but Chad Marshall's header hit the outside the of the post and bounced wide, as the visitors held out for the three points.
