David Gold: West Ham United only looking for "the best"

West Ham co-chairman David Gold insists that the club will be able to attract an illustrious name as their new manager due to their impending move to the Olympic Stadium.

West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has revealed that he is only looking for "the best" manager to replace Sam Allardyce at the helm of the club.

The Hammers parted company with Allardyce moments after the final whistle of their season-ending defeat to Newcastle United, a result that saw them finish the campaign in 12th place.

A number of high-profile names such as Rafael Benitez and Carlo Ancelotti have been linked with the vacant post, and with a move to the Olympic Stadium now just one season away, Gold believes that it is a chance for the club to make the leap into the upper echelons of the Premier League.

When asked whether such accomplished managers could be enticed to the club, Gold told Sky Sports News: "I don't think there's any doubt about that. When you see the Olympic Stadium, and I see it once a month or so, it's just an amazing, iconic stadium.

"This will not only encourage managers to come and manage West Ham in such a venue, but it will also attract players. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for West Ham United to challenge at the very top.

"West Ham is one of the great clubs in the Premier League with an amazing tradition. If you add the Olympic Stadium then it's an amazing package for any manager anywhere in the world. Everybody is on our radar. We are looking for the best and only time will tell."

West Ham will see European football in their final campaign at Upton Park, having qualified for the Europa League via the Fair Play table.
