Gary Caldwell: Craig Davies injury "nothing major"

Gary Caldwell plays down injury fears surrounding forward duo Craig Davies and Will Grigg, claiming that both should be available for selection sooner rather than later.

Wigan Athletic manager Gary Caldwell has revealed that the recent injury picked up by Craig Davies is "nothing major".

The Wales international was left out of the Latics' matchday squad for Saturday's 2-1 win over Fleetwood Town.

Will Grigg was also an absentee for that League One clash, but Caldwell expects to see both players back in action sooner rather than later.

"Craig had a slight hamstring problem on Thursday," he is quoted as saying by Wigan Today. "He's someone who's had hamstring problems before, and we have to be careful with him.

"But it's nothing major, it's a slight strain, and we'll manage him as the week goes on. Will has ruptured two ligaments in his elbow, a freak injury, but again not as bad as we first feared.

"He's managed to do some non-contact training on Saturday and hopefully he'll be available soon as well. Maybe that could be with a strapping or an injection and he might be allowed to play."

Davies and Grigg have both featured seven times for Athletic so far this season, scoring two goals apiece.
