Jenson Button remains positive despite tough pre-season

McLaren could be race winners this season despite their poor winter form, according to driver Jenson Button.

McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that he may be in a position to win races this season, despite difficulties in winter testing so far.

The British team have been hit with plenty of issues as they get used to their new Honda engine, which has led to suggestions that they will not be competitive when the new season starts in three weeks.

Button agrees, but believes that they will improve rapidly and won't struggle as much as last year, when they scored just two podiums.

He told Sky Sports News: "We are not going to have a race-winning car at the first race, but we might have one at the last race.

"I think you are going to see big improvements from us, we are all quite interested to see what this car can do because I think it has a lot of potential, but it is just very difficult to extract. It is tough for all of us and on the guys in the garage taking it apart and putting it back together, but we will solve these problems and hopefully soon."

Button is joined at McLaren by Spaniard Fernando Alonso for this season.
