Radek Stepanek has said that he used his experience in last year's final to help the Czech Republic successfully defend their Davis Cup crown against Serbia in Belgrade.
The 34-year-old overcame Dusan Lajovic 6-3 6-3 6-1 in this evening's decisive final rubber, equalling his feat of last year when he beat Spain's Nicolas Almagro in Prague.
"To win two Davis Cups is my greatest achievement," Stepanek said in his courtside interview. "To defend this trophy means the world to us.
"The match was the same [as last year's final], under the biggest possible pressure that can be. But I knew that I would want to use the experience from last year's final against him.
"Besides the first game, I controlled the match. I think I played in my best form ever this weekend."
The Czech Republic become the fifth nation to retain the Davis Cup since the formation of the World Group in 1981.
