Alastair Cook aims to get the "best" out of his younger teammates during England's one-day tour of India.

Alastair Cook has said that the young players in the England team need to "earn the right to play" as the side prepare to face India in their one-day tour.

Chris Woakes, 22, Jonathan Bairstow, 22 and Scott Borthwick, 21, have all made their way into the England squad, while uncapped 22-year-old Surrey cricketer Stuart Meaker has also been included.

Cook, who goes into the five-match series as the permanent England one-day captain, believes that his younger teammates need to prove why they have been selected.

"It's a very exciting time for these youngsters to go on tour for the first time," Metro quotes Cook as saying.

"It's great to have that enthusiasm around. Yes, they will be desperate to play, but they also have to earn the right to play.

"Part of my role is to get the best out of the [young] players and help them through the tour and hopefully I can do that."

England have not won a one-day series in India since 1985.
