Matt Prior has claimed that it is "only a matter of time" before Ravi Bopara begins to succeed at Test level.
Bopara was recalled for the first Test loss against South Africa, making scores of 0 and 22 in the match at the Oval.
However, Prior believes that Bopara does have the quality to become a top-class Test batsman in the near future.
The England wicket keeper said: "Ravi is a very talented batter and I think it's only a matter of time before he puts that big performance in in the Test arena.
"He has scored three hundreds already so we know he can do it, he knows he can do it. He has just got to go out and show everyone he has what it takes."
Bopara is expected to keep his place in the side for the second Test, which begins next Thursday at Headingley.
