England have raced to an eight-wicket win in Napier to level their ODI series against New Zealand.
The hosts, who batted first, were bowled out for 269 after James Anderson took five wickets for the tourists, with Ross Taylor hitting a top-scoring century.
The tourists started their innings well, with Alastair Cook hitting 78 runs before being caught by Tim Southee off his own bowl while Ian Bell scored 44.
However, Jonathan Trott (65) and Root (79) stitched a match-winning partnership of 121 runs to claim victory and take the series to 1-1.
