Toss could be scrapped from County Championship Division Two matches

The ECB is considering scrapping the toss from County Championship Division Two matches.

The England and Wales Cricket Board is considering removing the toss from Division Two matches in the County Championship.

The governing body reportedly feels that matches in the division are decided by the toss as teams prepare their pitches with the bowlers in mind.

The new rule would give the away team the choice of whether to bat, bowl or use the toss depending on the condition of the pitch.

According to BBC Sport, the ECB will discuss the proposal by its cricket committee on Thursday and if the green light is given, a one-year trial will be put in place for the 2016 season.

The toss will continue to be used in Division One and domestic limited-overs cricket.
