Jennifer Abel pips Maddison Keeney to 3m diving gold

Canada's Jennifer Abel beats Aussie Maddison Keeney to Commonwealths diving gold on the 3m springboard by just 0.4 points.

Canada's Jennifer Abel has beaten home favourite Maddison Keeney to Commonwealths gold in the women's 3m springboard event by the smallest of margins.

The experienced Abel - a six-time medallist at the Commonwealths, as well as an Olympic bronze medallist - had led the pack heading into the fifth and final round of dives but Keeney pulled off a stunning score of 85.00 for her forward 2-1/2 with 2 twists to throw the gold-medal race right open.

The pressure was all then on Abel with her back 2-1/2, which earned a score of 69.00 from the judges. That took her overall total to 366.95 - an agonising 0.4 points ahead of Keeney, who had to settle for silver.

Australia also claimed bronze from the event, Anabelle Smith's score of 336.90 enough to see off Abel's long-time synchro partner Pamela Ware, who sat six points back.

England's two divers in the race, 3m synchro silver medallists Katherine Torrance and Alicia Blagg, could only finish seventh and eighth respectively with disappointing sub-300 scores.
