Neale Cooper: 'Aberdeen can win Scottish Premiership'

Neale Cooper, who won the Scottish championship with Aberdeen in 1984 and 1985, believes that Derek McInnes's side can once again go all the way this season.

Former Aberdeen midfielder Neale Cooper has claimed that Derek McInnes's side can win the Scottish Premiership this season.

The Dons, who last won the title 30 years ago, currently lead the Scottish top flight with six wins in six, the last one a 2-1 victory over champions Celtic at Pittodrie.

Cooper, who was part of the Aberdeen side that claimed two consecutive titles in 1984 and 1985, told BBC Sport: "I'm just asked the question 'do I believe Aberdeen can win the league?' and what I've seen, I believe they can.

"Last year they played Celtic four times and lost four times. You've got to get over that and they did that on Saturday. Pittodrie hasn't been bouncing like that for a while."

The Dons' championship win in 1985, under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson, was the last title that was not won by the Old Firm.
