AC Milan frustrated by stubborn Carpi

Carpi produce an impressive defensive performance to hold AC Milan to a goalless draw at Stadio Alberto Braglia.

AC Milan were left frustrated as relegation battlers Carpi secure a goalless draw at Stadio Alberto Braglia.

On a night when Carpi's defenders enjoyed superiority, Sinisa Mihajlovic watched his side struggle in attacking areas due to a lack of creativity for long spells of the night.

A sluggish start from the visitors could have been punished when former Milan striker Marco Borriello managed to collect a lofted pass, but he could only slice an effort wide of the target.

As Carpi attempted to make the most of an extended spell on top, Gianluigi Donnarumma made a vital contribution with a stunning save to keep out Lorenzo Lollo's effort from the edge of the box.

M'Baye Niang came into the game as the first half progressed, but his attempt to break the deadlock with a powerful strike was denied when Vid Belec pushed the ball past the post.

It was Milan who piled the pressure on either side of the break, and despite dominating possession for long spells, Carpi looked composed at the back.

As the frustration started to build for the visitors, Giacomo Bonaventura created an opening with a clever piece of skill out wide followed by a pass to Niang, who could only slice wide of the target.

Milan pushed the hosts back in the closing stages, but Carpi held firm as Belec made a crucial stop to keep out a header from Alex before the point was finally secured.
