Lionel Messi fails to find a way past Saudi Arabia as Argentina are held in Riyadh.

A strong Argentina side including Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero has been held by Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.

Argentina keeper Sergio Romero was forced to make a string of fine saves to keep the Saudis out on a disappointing night for the South American giants.

Newcastle United defender Fabricio Coloccini was kept busy throughout and had to produce a goalline clearance to stop Frank Rijkaard's side from taking the lead.

Alejandro Sabella brought on Wigan Athletic striker Franco di Santo in the second half for his international debut but the forward failed to make the difference.

Messi nearly stole the win for Argentina in the closing stages, forcing an excellent stop from Saudi keeper Waleed Abdullah after beating three defenders.
