Jack Wilshere: 'We can put a marker down'

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere wants to put a statement of intent down in his side's first Champions League game of the season against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed that he and his teammates are determined to make their mark on the Champions League this season.

The Gunners have failed to progress beyond the round of 16 for the past four seasons, and Wilshere is ready to help his side improve on their recent performances in the competition when their campaign begins against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.

He told reporters: "To finish top is the target at the start. We can almost put a marker down in the game by saying we are here to win, and to win this group.

"Once you are in the last 16, you're not going to get an easy game. But we have been really unlucky with the draw over the last two years with Bayern Munich. They are the best team in Europe for me.

"We could have had anyone else and a little bit more of a chance of going through."

Arsenal drew for the third time in a row in the Premier League on Saturday as their clash with Manchester City finished 2-2 at the Emirates Stadium.
