Joleon Lescott marked his return to the Manchester City starting lineup with the only goal of the opening half from his side's home clash against Arsenal.
The visiting Gunners actually created the better of the chances during the first half, but they were unable to take full advantage.
Ivory Coast international Gervinho had the best opportunity with 17 minutes played when he was played through by Aaron Ramsey. However, his touch was heavy and Joe Hart came out to collect the ball.
Lukas Podolski also had a chance for the visitors, but he shot over Hart's bar following a cut back from Carl Jenkinson with 25 minutes played.
With what was one of their first attempts on goal of the half, City went in front in the 40th minute. David Silva swung in a corner, which was missed by Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone, leaving Lescott to head the ball into an unguarded net.
Arsenal continued to exert pressure on the City rearguard in the closing stage of the half, but they couldn't force an equaliser.
