Arsenal team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Southampton

Sports Mole looks at the latest injury and suspension news for Arsenal ahead of Sunday's Premier League encounter with Southampton.

Arsenal play host to Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon having had a two-week break from domestic action.

The Gunners have played both legs of their Europa League last-32 tie with BATE Borisov during that time, with a 3-0 victory over the Belarusian champions on Thursday night sealing their place in the next round.

Manager Unai Emery had to deal with a number of selection issues ahead of each of those fixtures, although the Spaniard did take the opportunity to give Mesut Ozil 90 minutes of football earlier this week.

Here, Sports Mole looks at Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their encounter with Ralph Hasenhuttl's side.

ARSENAL'S INJURY LIST

Laurent Koscielny

Status: Doubtful
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: February 24

Koscielny hobbled off against BATE on Thursday night, although Emery has suggested that the Frenchman's withdrawal was more of a precaution. However, the centre-back is unlikely to be risked at the weekend.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Status: Slight doubt
Type of injury: Illness
Possible return date: February 24

Maitland-Niles missed out on a place in the squad against BATE due to illness, but the right-back should be back in contention for the game with the Saints.

Hector Bellerin

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Hector Bellerin suffered a serious knee injury against Chelsea last month, and the right-back will not return until the latter months of 2019.

Rob Holding

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Rob Holding also sustained a serious knee injury against Manchester United at the start of December and like Bellerin, the centre-back will not return this season.

Danny Welbeck

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Danny Welbeck has been sidelined since the end of 2018 with a broken ankle and although the forward has recently suggested that he is happy with his progress in recovery, it is highly unlikely that the striker will feature again this season.

ARSENAL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Arsenal have no suspensions ahead of this game.
