Unai Emery dismisses Matteo Guendouzi to Paris Saint-Germain talk

Unai Emery brushes off speculation that Matteo Guendouzi could be on his way back to France amid rumoured interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has admitted to being "surprised" by talk that midfielder Matteo Guendouzi could be on his way to Paris Saint-Germain.

French champions PSG are rumoured to have been closely monitoring the 19-year-old this season and are reportedly preparing a £60m offer.

Guendouzi cost Arsenal just £7m to sign from Lorient last summer, but he is now considered one of the best young talents on the continent after starring in his maiden campaign in English football.

After seeing Guendouzi produce another composed display in Arsenal's 3-0 win against BATE Borisov on Thursday, Emery has played down rumours that teenager could be on his way back to France.

"I am surprised [by the speculation]. I don't want this," he told reporters at his post-match press conference.

"His development is like we want. He has a big ambition, big quality. Sometimes we need more quality with him and sometimes we need for him to be more stronger in midfield.

"But his development with us is very important and he's playing with big consistency and I think he is improving a lot. His quality is very impressive for us."

Guendouzi made his 34th appearance of the season in Arsenal's second-leg victory over BATE in the last 32 of the Europa League.
