Stoke City chairman Peter Coates slams abusive Aaron Ramsey chants

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates slams supporters who chanted abusive songs about Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey's 2010 double leg break.

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has hit out at a "minority" of supporters who sang abusive chants about Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

During Sunday's goalless draw at the Britannia Stadium, the Wales international was subjected to chants of "Aaron Ramsey, he walks with a limp".

Six years ago, the 25-year-old broke his leg in two places while playing against the Potters.

When asked about the chants, Coates told The Guardian: "You're telling me something that I'm completely unaware of. I've no idea that chant had taken place, but we wouldn't approve of it at all.

"I don't think it's a minority of fans, I know it's a minority. People chant all sorts of awful things at all sorts of grounds, which I dislike. But do I approve of that sort of chanting? Of course I don't."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said after the game that the "best way to deal" with the abusive chants is to ignore them.
