Arsenal legend Thierry Henry 'hopes' that the Gunners celebrated kicking Tottenham Hotspur out of the Champions League spots as opposed to finishing in the top four.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has insisted that his former club should have celebrated booting rivals Tottenham Hotspur out of the Champions League spots, not for simply qualifying for the top four.

The Gunners left it until the final game of the season to ensure a place in the elite European competition next season, finishing just one point above Spurs.

"For me, as a fan and as a player at Arsenal, we should be in the top four as normal, but [instead] it saved our season," Henry told Sky Sports News.

"I know we can have a go about the pictures of them celebrating finishing fourth, but you have to understand that, for any Arsenal player, when you really feel the shirt and really play for the club, putting Tottenham out of the top four [means everything], and I really do hope that's what they were celebrating."

Henry, who spent eight years at Arsenal, now plays for MLS side New York Red Bulls.
