Robert Pires: 'Arsenal can win the league'

Former Arsenal man Robert Pires believes that the current crop of players has what it takes to win the league.

Former Arsenal winger Robert Pires has said that the club have "a lot of ingredients" to win the Premier League this season.

The 42-year-old is currently training with the first-team squad to keep in shape, and he believes that he has seen enough from Arsene Wenger's squad to suggest that they have what it takes to win the Gunners' first league crown since 2004.

The Frenchman told The Guardian: "They have a lot of ingredients to win the title, because when you see the name in the paper the quality is there. The quality is very good.

"Of course, the Champions League is very important, but I prefer to see Arsenal win the Premier League this season and I know this is the objective for Arsene Wenger and all the players.

"It is also important for the fans. So yes, this team can win the Premier League."

Pires won five trophies in a six-year spell with the North London club, including two Premier League titles.
