Arsene Wenger hails Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain role

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hails Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's match-winning performance from the centre of midfield against Crystal Palace today.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has praised Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for his match-winning performance in the Gunners' 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace this afternoon.

Oxlade-Chamberlain started a Premier League game for the first time since the opening weekend of the season, occupying a central role that Wenger has long championed as his future position.

The 20-year-old scored both of Arsenal's goals to send them back to the top of the Premier League table, and Wenger was delighted with how the midfielder adapted to his new role.

"I always believed that he could play wide and central, I said that many times that his future will be central. He has proven me right today, by scoring the goals but also by the quality of his performance," the Frenchman told reporters.

The Gunners' next four matches see them take on Liverpool twice and host Manchester United and Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium.
