West Ham manager Sam Allardyce concedes that the club's attempts to tie Mohamed Diame to a more secure contract "haven't been successful".

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has said that contract negotiations with Mohamed Diame "haven't been successful".

The Senegal midfielder, who only joined the Hammers this summer from Wigan, is believed to have a £3.5m buyout clause in his contract and has regularly been linked with a move to Arsenal this transfer window.

Allardyce has admitted that the club are trying to tie the player down on a more secure contract but so far there has been little progress.

He said: "The owners have tried to renegotiate the contract, but they haven't been successful at the moment."

Diame, 25, has missed the last five Premier League games after picking up a hamstring injury in last month's defeat to Liverpool.
