Arsenal managing director Vinai Venkatesham admits that the Gunners are unlikely to be active during the January transfer window.

Managing director Vinai Venkatesham has suggested that Arsenal are unlikely to make any signings during the January transfer window.

Despite talk of a restricted budget for the summer, the Gunners surprised many by making several high-profile additions, which included Kieran Tierney, David Luiz and Nicolas Pepe.

Some supporters have called for more fresh faces at the beginning of 2020 as a result of an inconsistent start to the new Premier League campaign.

However, while not completely ruling out funds being made available for Unai Emery, Venkatesham has indicated that he would prefer to wait until the weeks before the start of next season.

Venkatesham told Bloomberg: "We've just been through the transfer period in the summer, that's what we always call the main transfer window, and we were very aggressive in that transfer window, signing a number of new players that we are very excited about - predominately targeting young players that we believe can grow and develop with us over future years.

"When we look forward to January, we'll see when January comes. I'd say that we always treat the summer window as being the more strategic window.

"The January window is the one where you need to be a bit more tactical, maybe responding to an injury or another demand. But really our work is done in the summer - and we're really pleased with what we did in the summer."

The North Londoners spent over £130m during the summer, although the deal to sign Pepe allegedly involves several instalments.
