Arsenal defender David Luiz says that he 'dreams of ending his career at Benfica' and has already discussed a future move to the Portuguese giants.

Arsenal defender David Luiz has confirmed that he has already held talks with Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira over a "dream" return to the Portuguese club.

The Brazilian defender is expected to leave the Emirates Stadium when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Luiz only joined Arsenal from London rivals Chelsea last summer and has featured 32 times this season in all competitions, but a new deal has not been offered.

Speaking to Portuguese outlet Record, the 33-year-old outlined his desire to re-sign for Benfica, where he spent five seasons in the early part of his career.

"I already spoke with Vieira about the return," he said. "My dream is to end my career at Benfica.

"When, I don't know, but it will happen... it will, if President Vieira allows me and if the fans want me to come back. It will be one of the most beautiful moments of my career."

Luiz appeared 132 times for Benfica during his first spell at the club between 2006 and 2011.
