Arsenal legend urges Arsene Wenger to ignore Chelsea's Petr Cech

Arsenal legend Bob Wilson advises Arsene Wenger to keep faith with Wojciech Szczesny amid speculation linking him with a £7m move for Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Legendary Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson has urged manager Arsene Wenger to stick with Wojciech Szczesny amid rumours of interest in Chelsea's Petr Cech.

Speculation is rife that the Gunners are considering a £7m January swoop for the out-of-favour 32-year-old, who has fallen behind Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order.

Although admitting his fondness for the Czech keeper, Wilson, who spent 11 years with Arsenal until 1974, says that Wenger should look to fix his "dodgy defence" before anything else.

"I'm a huge admirer of Cech, the best goalkeeper in the Premier League for the last several seasons," the 73-year-old told The Mirror. "But it would be blaming the goalkeeper when he's not the one to blame.

"I've always been a supporter of Wojciech, and at this moment I would remain that. He is still this young goalie who is progressing all the time. But he has got a really dodgy defence in front of him. It is a two-way thing. He can only do so much.

"People are going to jump on the bandwagon and start blaming the goalie, which I don't think he deserves. He is a really solid goalkeeper. We are very attack minded, almost naively thinking if the opposition score three, we'll score five."

Blues boss Jose Mourinho dismissed the rumours of Cech leaving earlier this week.
