Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger remains coy when questioned on whether his club had made a breakthrough in negotiations for AS Monaco's Thomas Lemar.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said that the Gunners 'do not speak about how the negotiations go' when questioned on reports that AS Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar is nearing a move to the Emirates Stadium.

On Friday, it was claimed that Arsenal had 'made a breakthrough' in their pursuit of the 21-year-old, who is believed to be valued in the region of £45m by his current club.

However, after Arsenal's 5-2 win over Benfica in the Emirates Cup on Saturday afternoon, Wenger was questioned on the latest reports, and the Frenchman revealed that "there is nothing special to say".

"We don't speak about how the negotiations go. We come out once the player is done or not done. I can't tell you that. But at the moment there is nothing special to say in this case," Wenger told Arsenal's official website. "We are still active in the transfer market in general."

Lemar scored 14 times and registered 14 assists in all competitions last season as Monaco secured their first Ligue 1 title since 2000, in addition to reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The attacker is under contract at Monaco until the summer of 2020.
