Arsenal may face a struggle to keep hold of defender Thomas Vermaelen as Barcelona reportedly decide to launch a bid for the Belgium international.
Previous reports have linked the 26-year-old to the Catalan giants but interest has since cooled in recent weeks. However, it appears that the former La Liga champions are keen to continue their pursuit.
It is understood that Barca boss Tito Vilanova has urged sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta to find a new central defender, with Vermaelen believed to be at the top of the list, according to the Daily Mail.
If the Spanish giants are unsuccessful in their approach for Vermaelen, reports have claimed that the club will consider Athletic Bilbao's Javi Martinez.
