As many as three Premier League clubs are reportedly battling two Spanish giants in the race to sign Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich.

Liverpool are reportedly among five clubs who are attempting to secure a deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich this summer.

During his nine-year stint at the Allianz Arena, Kimmich has etched his name into the club's history, making 390 appearances and winning 20 pieces of silverware.

However, at the age of 29, it is largely accepted that the Germany international is ready to take on a new challenge for 2024-25.

While Bayern would naturally prefer to retain his services, just one year remains on the contract of the legendary figure.

Bayern officials have previously acknowledged that they will not risk a free transfer in 2025, increasing the chances of Kimmich being sold over the coming months.

Five clubs showing interest

Nevertheless, it is yet to be seen whether any of the teams in question will be prepared to match the alleged €20m-per-year pay packet that Kimmich earns at Bayern.

According to Sky Sport Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg, there are five teams who remain active in the race to sign the versatile German.

Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal are the teams from the Premier League, three plausible destinations if Kimmich wants to experience English football.

European champions Real Madrid are also said to be monitoring the situation and have the financial firepower to negotiate a deal if they so wish.

Barcelona are also reportedly interested in attracting Kimmich to Camp Nou, where he would reunite with Hansi Flick, but they must first make substantial sales to have any chance of pulling off a transfer.

Agent issue to hinder or streamline process?

Plettenberg adds that Kimmich is currently operating without an agent, which effectively leaves clubs in a position where they would have to directly call him.

Whether that would happen while Kimmich is competing at Euro 2024 remains to be seen, but it could theoretically draw out what could become a lengthy process.

From Bayern's perspective, they are likely to prefer to have some clarity over the situation so that they can plan their own incomings, with two playmakers valued in excess of £50m having been strongly linked.
