Newly-appointed Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany is reportedly eager to secure a reunion with a former Manchester City teammate at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has reportedly set his sights on securing a reunion with a former Manchester City teammate.

After a number of candidates rejected the chance to move to the Allianz Arena, Kompany allegedly took just five minutes to accept an offer to leave Burnley for the Bundesliga giants.

Kompany is now tasked with trying to reclaim the league title from 2023-24 unbeaten winners Bayer Leverkusen, and there is every indication he will be backed in the transfer market.

Japan international Hiroki Ito has been acquired from Stuttgart, while reports have indicated that Crystal Palace playmaker Michael Olise has shunned Premier League interest in order to move to Germany.

Although that would represent one creator heading through the arrival door, it appears that Kompany also has his sights set on bringing in a more experienced player for that role.

Silva on Bayern radar

According to the Daily Star, Kompany is ready to work to convince Bernardo Silva to leave the Etihad Stadium during the summer transfer window.

The pair were part of the same Pep Guardiola squad between 2017 and 2019 before Kompany opted to make the switch back to former club Anderlecht.

Since then, Silva has also etched his name into history with City, contributing a total of 66 goals and 66 assists from his 355 appearances in all competitions.

Silva also has an incredible six Premier League titles and a Champions League among his vast array of silverware during his time in the North West.

Nevertheless, the 29-year-old has never been shy about his desire to take on a new challenge, including a reunion with Benfica at some stage of his career.

Is Kompany likely to succeed?

Much will come down to whether Bayern are prepared to meet City's asking price with the Premier League champions largely been open to cashing in on want-away players if their demands are met.

Guardiola has always acknowledged that he would like to keep the Portugal international in his squad, yet he now has just two years remaining on his contract.

Silva is said to have a £50m release clause in his contract, although it is unclear whether Bayern would be open to shelling out that much money if they also sign Olise.

Furthermore, it is unclear what length of contract would suit Silva given his desire to spend a second stint at Benfica while still somewhere close to the peak of his powers.
