Freddie Ljungberg will reportedly have a prolonged spell in the Arsenal dugout as the club takes its time over appointing a new permanent manager.

The North London club announced on Friday morning that Unai Emery had been sacked following a winless run lasting seven games.

Ljungberg, who spent nine seasons at Arsenal, has taken over as interim coach as the club begins its search for their next manager.

According to The Times, the former midfielder looks set for an extended period in charge, with Arsenal determined to take their time over the recruitment process.

Mikel Arteta, Brendan Rodgers, Nuno Espirito Santo, Massimiliano Allegri and Carlo Ancelotti have all been mentioned as candidates for the position.
