Arsenal confirm the signing of Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal from Real Madrid.

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal from Real Madrid.

The Norway captain enjoyed a successful six-month loan spell in the capital during the second half of the 2020-21 season, banking two goals and two assists in 20 games across all competitions.

Odegaard initially posted a fond farewell message after the completion of his loan spell, seemingly confirming that he would not be returning to the Emirates, but he was the priority of Mikel Arteta and Edu in the number 10 role throughout the summer.

The 22-year-old was thought to have been in Carlo Ancelotti's plans at Real Madrid this season, but he was left out of the squad to face Alaves at the weekend as Arsenal closed in on a deal worth a reported €35m (£29.6m).

Odegaard will wear the '8' at Arsenal, but the Gunners have confirmed that he will not be available for Sunday's game against Chelsea due to visa issues.

The former Stromsgodset starlet becomes Arsenal's fourth permanent capture of the summer following the signings of Nuno Tavares, Ben White and Albert Sambi Lokonga, and Arteta's side are also expected to announce the arrival of Sheffield United's Aaron Ramsdale imminently.
