Arsene Wenger hints Arsenal will not spend big in January transfer window

Arsene Wenger says that he will not sign any new players in January if his squad are fit.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has suggested that he has no plans as yet to bring in new signings during the January transfer window.

The Frenchman was criticised for failing to address his defensive issues in the summer market, but the Frenchman believes that there will be "little activity" next month.

The Gunners have a number of casualties, including Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal and Aaron Ramsey, on the treatment table, but Wenger has claimed that if his squad are fit by the end of the month, then he will not dip into the transfer fund.

"There will be very little activity - quiet in the first three weeks, frenetic in the last few days," Wenger told reporters in this morning's press conference.

"If everybody is fit and available, we don't need to go into transfer market, but we have to accept Koscielny has a question mark over his fitness, so we may have to go into the market."

Tomorrow, Arsenal will take on Newcastle United at the Emirates.
