Arsene Wenger: "I am not scared to spend money"

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists that he will not be scared to spend money in the January transfer market if the right player is available to the Gunners.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is willing to spend money in January if the right player is available.

The Frenchman has been criticised in the past for his conservative approach in the transfer market, but has splashed the cash to sign players such as Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck in recent years.

Wenger told reporters: "There were periods when we did not have the money. What I don't like is to spend money that I do not have. Now I have money so there is no problem spending it at all.

"What I fought against was spending money that would have put the future of the club in danger. If we find the right player, we will do it. Without any doubt.

"There is a huge difference between the perception people have of me and the reality. I am not scared to spend money. If you go out with me one night, you will understand that!"

Wenger has admitted that he may be looking to sign a defender in the transfer window amid injuries to key players at the back.
