Wojciech Szczesny confirms Roma move

Wojciech Szczesny confirms that he is nearing a move to Roma amid speculation of a loan from Arsenal.

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has confirmed that he is on the brink of joining Roma.

Petr Cech's arrival plunged the 25-year-old's future into doubt, and Arsene Wenger revealed on Friday that a deal to loan him to Rome was "pretty much done".

The Pole, who fell behind David Ospina in the pecking order last term, has provided confirmation of the switch with an Instagram video.

He said, in Italian: "Good evening, Giallorossi supporters, I am very happy because tomorrow I go to Rome. See you then."

Szczesny had been the Gunners' number one since 2010 before being usurped by Ospina in January.

He was reportedly caught smoking at Southampton immediately after a 2-0 defeat on New Year's Day, in a game that also saw him make an error for one of the goals.

Despite losing his place to his Colombian counterpart for Premier League outings, Szczesny started most of the North Londoners' games en route to winning the FA Cup.

His Arsenal contract expires in 2018.
