Monaco confirm the appointment of Adi Hutter as their new manager on a two-year contract following the sacking of Philippe Clement.

Monaco have confirmed the appointment of Adi Hutter as their new head coach on a two-year contract.

The 53-year-old returns to the dugout one year on from leaving Borussia Monchengladbach at the end of the 2021-22 season and has penned a deal with the Principality giants until 2025.

Hutter takes over from Philippe Clement, whose tumultuous reign officially came to an end last month as he was sacked following his failure to guide Monaco into Europe.

"We are very pleased to welcome Adi Hutter to AS Monaco. Over the last few years, Adi has proved himself in a number of different leagues, as well as on the continental stage," Monaco director of football Thiago Scuro said in a statement.

"This wealth of experience, combined with his leadership qualities and lively, forward-looking style, is exactly what we are looking for as we aim to take the first team to the next level. Welcome Adi!"

Following an Austria-based playing career, Hutter entered into management with Red Bull Salzburg's junior teams before landing a job at SCR Altach in 2009 and remaining in that post for three years.

Hutter subsequently took over at Grodig in 2012 and guided the club to the Austrian second-tier title in his first season in charge, before achieving a league and cup double with Salzburg in the 2014-15 season.

The Austrian left his homeland that same year to take over at Swiss giants BSC Young Boys, with whom he won the 2017-18 top-flight title and oversaw two Europa League group-stage campaigns.

A successful three-year spell at Eintracht Frankfurt followed for Hutter, who took Die Adler to the semi-finals of the 2018-19 Europa League and masterminded a top-five finish in his final campaign in charge, winning the German footballers union's Coach of the Year award in both seasons.

Hutter was subsequently hired by Borussia Monchengladbach to replace Borussia Dortmund-bound Marco Rose in 2021, but he only lasted one year in charge of Die Fohlen.

Under the 53-year-old's tutelage, Monchengladbach laboured to a 10th-placed finish in the 2021-22 Bundesliga season, and the two parties mutually agreed to part ways last summer.

Earlier this year, Hutter was linked with the Leicester City job after Brendan Rodgers's sacking, but the Foxes instead opted to hire former Manchester City assistant Enzo Maresca.

Monaco finished sixth in the 2022-23 Ligue 1 campaign with a total of 65 points, missing out on a place in the Europa Conference League by two points while also losing their Europa League knockout round playoff tie to Bayer Leverkusen.
