Diego Costa has returned to first-team training with Atletico Madrid.

It had initially been feared that the powerful forward would miss the next couple of weeks of the season after suffering a deep gash on his leg in a collision with the post in Sunday's 2-0 win over Getafe.

However, subsequent scans revealed no lasting damage and the Spanish international was present for a full training session with his club on Wednesday morning.

Atletico host Elche in La Liga on Friday evening, before facing Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final next week.

Costa has scored 34 times in all competitions this season.
