Miguel Moya: 'Violent claims have no weight'

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Miguel Moya laughs off claims that the Spanish champions are 'a violent team'.

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Miguel Moya has insisted that the Spanish champions are not 'a violent team'.

The Madrid side have emerged into one of the best teams in Europe over the last couple of seasons, with their in-your-face style bringing success in both Spain and the Champions League.

However, Moya has insisted that Atletico always play to the letter of the law.

"We can't ignore it. We've heard it but I think it comes more from the press. We almost take it humorously. We don't put any importance on it and don't want to create a controversy," he told AS.

"There are a lot of teams, including Atletico, who base their game on intensity. This is a contact sport and intensity is within the rules. That's to our benefit.

"I don't like to be called violent. We're strong. But we don't have a magic wand to change people's opinions."

Moya joined Atletico from Getafe this summer.
