Saturday's Barcelona transfer talk news roundup: Memphis Depay, Lionel Messi, Philippe Coutinho

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Barcelona on Saturday, September 5.

The summer transfer window has now begun, with rumours and speculation continuing to swirl as Barcelona eye possible reinforcements.

The Spanish champions spent big on Antoine Griezmann last summer but missed out on a big-name striker in January and have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, meaning that selling players rather than buying could be their priority this summer.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer news from the Camp Nou.

Saturday morning's Barcelona transfer talk news roundup:

Barcelona are reportedly lining up a £22m move for Lyon forward Memphis Depay ahead of the new La Liga campaign.

Having recently replaced Quique Setien in the Camp Nou dugout, new Barca manager Ronald Koeman is expected to oversee a significant overhaul of his squad this summer.

Koeman and Depay worked closely together during the former's time as Netherlands manager, and Koeman is reportedly keen on a reunion with the 26-year-old in Catalonia.

According to Post United, Barca are set to land the Dutch forward in a deal worth €25m (£22m), with Depay's contract at Lyon set to expire next summer.

The former Manchester United man has chalked up 57 goals in 139 games for Lyon across all competitions, and Depay marked Lyon's first game of the 2020-21 Ligue 1 campaign with a hat-trick in a 4-1 victory against Dijon.

While current Barca forward Luis Suarez appears to be inching closer towards the Camp Nou exit doors, Lionel Messi has confirmed that he will stay on in Catalonia just one week after submitting a transfer request.

Philippe Coutinho 'determined to fight for Barcelona spot'

Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho is reportedly determined to fight for his place in the side following his return from Bayern Munich.

The 28-year-old spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan with Bayern, helping the German outfit to claim a treble and scoring twice in their 8-2 win over parent club Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Coutinho had been deemed surplus to requirements by Ronald Koeman's predecessors Ernesto Valverde and Quique Setien, and has been heavily tipped to leave Barcelona again this summer, either on loan or on a permanent basis.

However, The Mirror reports that the Brazilian wants to prove himself to new manager Koeman as he looks to play a role in the club's new era.

Coutinho declined the opportunity for an extra rest period after his involvement in the Champions League final and returned early to training with Barcelona on Friday.

The former Liverpool playmaker had been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City in the Premier League.
