Barcelona have revealed that Luis Suarez will undergo a knee operation on Sunday.
The 32-year-old, who played the full 90 minutes against Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup on Thursday night, has suffered an injury to the external meniscus of his right knee.
The Spanish champions have said that the Uruguay international will have an operation on Sunday but have refused to put a timeframe on his return at this moment in time.
"Luis Suarez will be operated on tomorrow Sunday by Dr Ramon Cugat for an injury to the external meniscus of his right knee. Once the surgery has been performed, the club will issue another press release," read a statement on Barcelona's official website.
Suarez, who underwent surgery on the same knee in May 2019, has scored 14 times and contributed 11 assists in 23 appearances for Ernesto Valverde's side during the 2019-20 campaign.
The South American's current deal at Camp Nou will expire in the summer of 2021.
