Barcelona defender Eric Abidal has reportedly been told that he can return to action for the Spanish giants following a liver transplant.

The 33-year-old, who had a tumour removed from his liver in 2011, started training again in October.

It is understood that the medical team at Barcelona have informed Abidal that he is fit enough to play in a competitive match for the former La Liga champions, according to AS Sport.

Abidal underwent the transplant procedure in April.
