Barcelona could reportedly lose out on £14.3m of their January budget if they fail to qualify for the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Barcelona are reportedly facing the prospect of further financial turmoil if they fail to advance past the Champions League group stages.

Ronald Koeman's side have suffered back-to-back 3-0 defeats to Bayern Munich and Benfica to sit rock bottom of the rankings in Group E after two matches.

The Catalan giants now prepare for the visit of Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday but will find themselves outside of the top two at the halfway point no matter what transpires on matchday three.

According to Sport, the powers-that-be at Barca have set the squad a target to reach the quarter-finals of this year's competition, which would come with a sizeable boost to the war chest in January.

The report adds that Barca could miss out on a total of £14.3m if they fail to make it out of the group, which would represent a large chunk of the £16.9m that the club are hoping to have at their disposal over the winter.

President Joan Laporta has hinted that the Catalan giants will try to do some business in January, with a new striker thought to be on the club's wishlist for the second half of the season.
