Barcelona offer head coach Xavi a contract extension with until the end of the 2025-26 campaign, according to a report.

Barcelona have reportedly offered head coach Xavi the opportunity to extend his contract with the club until the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

The 43-year-old's existing deal with the Catalan outfit is due to expire in June 2024, but he recently revealed that he was in talks with the La Liga team over an extension.

According to Marca, Barcelona have now made official contact with Xavi's representatives, offering the club legend the chance to sign a contract until the summer of 2026.

The club's head coach recently said that he would stay at Camp Nou 'for life', but he is currently focusing on the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign.

"I would stay at Barcelona all my life, it's my home, but I depend on results," Xavi said recently when asked about the speculation surrounding a potential new contract.

"Joan [Laporta] is my friend. Barcelona is very lucky to have a president like him. He's very reliable and he's a straight shooter. For me, he is a friend.

"This is not about money or contract years, but about wanting the club to do well. The day I feel I don't convince the players, I'll go home. First, the results. Then we'll talk about my future."

There had previously been suggestions that Xavi's struggles in Europe could lead to his position being reviewed.

Barcelona again failed to make it out of the group stage of the Champions League this season, while they lost to Manchester United in the Europa League playoff knockout round.

The Catalan giants also lost 4-0 to Real Madrid in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final to exit the competition, but Xavi won his first trophy as head coach earlier this year, beating Real Madrid to lift the Spanish Super Cup.

Meanwhile, the team are in a commanding position at the top of the La Liga table, sitting 13 points clear of second-placed Real Madrid on the same number of matches.

Xavi returned to Barcelona as head coach in November 2021, and he has now taken charge of 80 matches for the club, boasting a record of 50 wins, 15 draws and 15 losses.

Widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the history of football, Xavi represented Barcelona as a player between 1998 and 2015 before finishing his career with Al-Sadd, who he then managed between May 2019 and November 2021.

The Catalan side were held to a goalless draw by Girona in the league on Monday and will be bidding to return to winning ways when they head to Getafe on Sunday afternoon.
