Luis Enrique: 'Give managers six-month deals'

Luis Enrique calls for only short-term contracts to be handed to managers as it provides a cheaper and easier alternative for clubs to deal with.

Barcelona's Luis Enrique has claimed that fellow managers should be handed contracts lasting a maximum length of just six months.

The topic of Arsene Wenger's future has been hotly discussed in the build-up to Wednesday night's meeting between the Catalan giants and Arsenal at Camp Nou.

Asked about his thoughts on long-term spells at one club, Enrique suggested that it would be a cheaper and easier alternative to simply hand out short-term deals to all coaches regardless of the situation.

"I would make it so there is never a contract of more than six months," BBC Sport quotes the Spaniard as saying. "If I'm not happy and I'm not helping, it makes no sense for me to be a coach. The shorter the better."

"It would be cheaper for the club as well - if you don't like the manager, you just change it and you don't spend much money to fire him. I think the future is moving in that direction for both the club and coach to decide whether he stays every year."

Enrique's Barca side will take a 2-0 lead into the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Arsenal.
