Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde refuses to step down as head coach of the Spanish champions.

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has insisted that he will not be resigning as head coach of the Spanish champions, despite last week's incredible loss to Liverpool in the Champions League.

Barca are on course for a domestic double this season having already wrapped up La Liga, but they fell short in the Champions League once again - losing 4-0 at Liverpool in the second leg of their semi-final to suffer a 4-3 aggregate defeat.

Valverde's position was called into question following the European failure, but the head coach told reporters that he 'had not thought about' stepping down when the question was posed.

Barca returned to winning ways in La Liga on Sunday night as goals from Arturo Vidal and Lionel Messi secured a 2-0 success at home to top-four hopefuls Getafe.

The Catalan giants will finish their league season at Eibar next weekend, before facing Valencia in the Copa del Rey final on May 24.
