Eric Abidal admits that Barcelona will always hold a special place in his heart after playing his final game for the club.

Eric Abidal has admitted that Barcelona will always mean a lot to him, after his final appearance for the club.

The defender, who recovered from a liver tumour and a liver transplant during his time at Barca, made a short cameo appearance in their 4-1 win over Malaga in La Liga this evening.

The former France international revealed earlier in the week that he would be leaving the club and wanted to thank the fans for their support.

"I want to thank all of you for the support all those years," said Abidal. "They have been six incredible years, and many thanks to the Catalan people.

"I will always carry you in my heart. Now I want to invite my cousin Gerard, to receive your applause, he deserves it more than I do."

Abidal's cousin Gerard was the donor for his liver transplant earlier in the season.
