Barcelona begin negotiations with Spanish defender Jordi Alba over a new contract, according to a report.

Barcelona have reportedly begun negotiations with Jordi Alba over a new contract.

Alba, 29, is believed to be keen to sign a new long-term contract at Camp Nou, with his current deal due to expire in the summer of 2020.

The defender has scored twice and provided eight assists in 17 appearances for Barcelona this term and has made over 260 appearances for the Catalan giants since a 2012 move from Valencia.

According to Diario Sport, Barcelona have made contact with Alba's representatives regarding a new deal, and both parties are keen for an agreement to be reached.

Last month, it was reported that Barcelona were delaying contract talks with the defender 'for economic purposes'.
