Conference Premier roundup: Barnet extend lead

Sports Mole rounds up Saturday afternoon's action in the Conference Premier as Barnet go eight points clear with win over Southport.

Barnet registered a 3-0 victory over Southport this afternoon to extend their lead at the top of the Conference Premier table to eight points.

With Bristol Rovers not involved in Conference action, the Bees knew that they could put clear daylight between themselves and the chasing pack, and they took full advantage against the North West side.

Charlie MacDonald netted a first-half opener for Martin Allen's team before Luisma Villa and John Akinde scored in the final 10 minutes to confirm victory.

Macclesfield Town have overtaken Rovers in second place following a 3-0 win over Lincoln City, with Denny Johnstone, Paul Lewis and Matthew Barnes-Homer all getting on the scoresheet.

Grimsby Town ensured that they did not lose ground on Macclesfield after they recorded a 2-0 triumph away at Nuneaton Town.

Kidderminster Harriers missed the chance to move clear in a playoff spot after they fell to a 1-0 defeat at Chester FC.

Results in full: Barnet 3-0 Southport, Chester FC 1-0 Kidderminster Harriers, Macclesfield Town 3-0 Lincoln City, Nuneaton Town 0-2 Grimsby Town
